I have a couple questions for everyone out there.
I received the Welcome Package for our new duty station, and I was curious to know........
1. Did you get a Welcome Package?
2. Was there any information you wish was included that wasn't?
3. What was the most useful information in your package?
I have a reason for all these questions and will call on your input again, but for now please, please take the time to comment! It doesn't matter if you aren't in the Military anymore, I still want to know!
:) Thanks everyone!!
:) Thanks everyone!!
Id have to say no, even with 4 PCS's behind us, we have never received a welcome package. I always thought it was strange too... It would have been nice to have one and I'm sure useful as well... especially when we moved on an Army Post and my hubby left about a week after we moved in. I had no contact information or anything and a 13 month old baby on my hip while I figured everything out by myself. There was no one to say "Hi! Welcome here... and BTW here's some great info on stuff around the base and important things on base" what would have been helpful was knowing where the base's operations departments were located like... Base Housing office, DEERS, etc. And important numbers like his First Sgt., Key Spouse for his unit, Ph # for maintenance. Really... any kinda info would have been more helpful than the "welcome here and fend for yourself!" I even had to ask the gate guard where the commissary was! I think there's a big assumtion that if your PCS'ing in that A.) you've done this before and B.) You'll have your hubby with you. But with every move, there are always changes and no matter how many times you've done it... every city is different, not to mention country! And sometimes you do have to do it on your own, or you all get there and your hubby has to leave for 3 1/2 months! Like mine did LOL! So yeah, welcome packages... I am all about them! They can make all the difference! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jess! This was super helpful!!!! Hope you are doing well!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't receive a welcome package but I don't know if that's because we opted for living on the economy rather than move into on-post housing (with a one-year wait list, of course!). It would have been appreciated, especially as this was our first PCS and our first time living close to such a large military base, but we've managed to figure out a lot of stuff on our own so far. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks L! I was talking to my mom and she said she doesn't remember getting a Welcome Aboard Package either, of course it could have been that my dad got it, or that they just didn't do it back then. I am sorry that both of you never got one, I think we got one for Maryland, but if we did it must not have been awesome if I can't even remember. The one I got recently was very helpful, but I think that it may have a lot to do with the location. Thanks again for your input ladies!
