Flat Daddy Arrives.

We have finally recieved our Flat Daddy, and it is everything I had hoped it would be. The minute I unrolled it our youngest squidlet made a b-line and attacked. There was an all around jump for joy by both of them and it was really sweet to see. I managed quite easily to stick him on a foam board and for the rest of the night he was preoccupied with matters of my children.
Both of them showered him with kisses and hugs, but the best for me was when our boy was fast asleep and my little lady spent a fare amount of time laying next to our Flat Daddy talking to him about her day and what she has been doing since we got here. It was beautiful. Our youngest is calling him daddy and wrestles with him, and our oldest wants to eat every meal with him (while our youngest tries to feed him) and tell him all about what she is doing at the time. It is lovely.
I have to admit that I was prepared for the possibility that they would react this way, or that they would be very stand-offish, particularly our youngest. What I was not prepared for was my own reaction. Staring at a normal picture is one thing, staring at a life sized picture of your loved one is entirely different. After the kids had gone to bed I found myself wanting to talk to him too. I'm so glad I ordered it and it was well worth the wait.

Running.

Hello all! Long time no talk.
I have been spending my days playing with the kids, and pretty much just being on vacation and trying really hard not to stress to much. This weekend was my nieces 5th birthday, and after much discussion we decided to go to Schlitterbaun down in Galveston. They have an indoor part that stays open until December, and it was so much fun!! Sadly, I don't have any pictures, but in all honesty I didn't think my camera would have fared well at a water park. Rest assured though, a great time was had by all! The rest of the weekend we just hung out and relaxed. It was quite nice.

There was also quite a bit of catch me if you can. :)

Relax.

This weekend my sister had an appointment in Bryan/College Station, so the kids and I decided to go along and have our own little getaway.
We stayed at The La Salle Hotel in the heart of historical Bryan. It was restored in 2000 and is really a beautiful hotel. It has a lovely lobby and cafe/bar downstairs, a free breakfast and a milk and cookie bar at bedtime. It's close to unique stores, antique malls, tons of the top places to eat in Bryan, as well as The Children's Museum. We had lunch at Must Be Heaven, on a recommendation from my mom. It was walking distance from the hotel, and really good...particularly the pie!

The view from our 6th floor room was great.

Dinner was good. Spaghetti and meatballs for the kids.

Margherita pizza for me.

Plus, a Caprese with Prosciutto appetizer

I was admittedly disappointed with the milk and selection of 2 cookies that were offered, but I got over it the minute my poor "been sleeping on the futon for the last month" body hit the bed. It was amazing. It had delicious soft sheets, and pillows, topped with a lighter than air down comforter. I sunk into that bed and never looked back. My plans of taking a long hot bath and reading were blown away with the sigh I let out as I fell asleep. The room was more than I am used to spending on a room (about 100.00 a night) but, it was worth it. Everyone should splurge every once in a while!

*I'm not getting anything for this, I just really enjoyed the hotel!*

Flat Daddy

I finally sat down and ordered our Flat Daddy yesterday. I am so excited! I told The Squid I was going to and while he made a little fun of me, I think he likes the fact that our kids will have it. I'm sure the kids will love dressing it up and taking pictures with it. I must admit I am also jazzed to have it. I am not sure why but I have a deep need to have it in the passenger side seat as I drive all over Texas. Don't worry, I'll make sure he has his seat belt on, Safety First! I'll put on his favorite music and we can all jam together. It might be the first and last time we drive around and I don't have to hear about what a terrible driver I am. :) Is is weird that I might get caught by my sister watching TV or snuggling with it? I am sure I will, although I probably won't post any pics on the blog. :)
If you haven't checked out their website you should! I think they are even making a documentary about it.

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #56

It's Friday again. Yes, I have had a pretty slow week as far as posts go, but I am going to participate in the weekly gathering of lovely milSpouses over at http://wifeofasailor.com/. Wifey, has become a pro at this so head on over and check it out!

My plans for this weekend include sitting around the house, and then going to hang with the in-laws, but what I’d really like to do is, go on a first honeymoon with The Squid.

I consider the Labor Day holiday the true end of Summer, bring on Fall!

My favorite meal for cookouts is steak, and grilled Caesar salad, but my Squid wouldn’t agree. (He isn't a big fan of steak.)

So far, my favorite part of summer has been seeing my kids having so much fun with our families.

When it comes to deployments, my (current) philosophy is "Be Calm and Sew On!" and/or Be strong, if not for yourself then for him. He is having a hard time too and the last thing he needs is to be worried or guilty.
