Foot Prints and Spoons and Smiles!

It is still cold! It's March, and I'm not used to this, still have to have the heater on, still wrapping up in tons of clothes, still have snow on the ground, kind of weather. But, my mood was brightened by some pretty cute stuff.

Like some cute birdie prints in the snow.

Like the sun coming out to shine and lighting up these beautiful spoons I just received from my MIL. Man, she is spoiling me. What I'm going to do with all my less than amazing kitchen utensils?

Plus, these cuties always bring a smile to my face! Hope you had a great weekend!

The Quilt.....Step 1. To Buy or To Make? That Is The Question.

I have been going back and forth for years over whether or not to buy a quilt for myself or to make one. The quilt I have, was given to me by my grandmother when I was in high school, and it's no longer usable if I want it to not fall apart in the wash.
After spending literally months looking for a quilt, I decided that it would be better for me to make my own. Not only is it cheaper (if I want one of good quality), but I also got to pick my own fabric! After what seemed like weeks (because it was) I finally fell in love with a collection.
Odd & Ends by Julie Comstock for Moda.

It is so beautiful, the minute I got it I got that feeling of, " this is so beautiful how am I going to cut into it?". I'm going to have to though, because I want my quilt! :)

I am using pre-cut Jelly Rolls. Since I am inexperienced in quilt making, I thought it would be easier. The fabric on the bottom is what I picked for the backing. Both are from the same collection, and they are my favorites of all the fabrics. I am so excited!
This is the pattern I am going to use. I think it's going to be pretty great.

Now all I need to figure out is what to use for binding. :)

Have you ever made your own quilt? What patterns are your favorite for quilts?

We're Rolling Now!!

For a while now I've been toying with the idea of trying out a new sport. It's never to late right??
You can teach an old dog new tricks, right??
I have played tennis for some time, and I am a pretty good bowler. I know. Bowling??
(I bowled competitively from 10 to 18. I'm not all that bad.) I was looking for something different though. I reconnected with a high school friend of mine on Facebook, and after watching her journey, she inspired me to start my own. I bit the bullet and bought these.

Roller Derby Skates. Riedell Vandals to be exact. How pretty are these? I can't get enough of those pink wheels!! I got outdoor wheels in pink too! eeeeek!
I found 2 teams in my area and I have until November to get my shit together.
(The next try-outs are then.) I put them on almost as soon as I got them and rolled around my house all day. It was so much fun! I forgot how much fun it was to skate. I'm still a bit wibbly & wobbly, and I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow, but little by little it's coming back to me. :)
Even the kids are getting into it.

We had races from room to room as soon as school was over...

and, I'm not sure I'll ever get my helmet back. He made it very clear that he loves skating, even without skates. :) How cute is this boy!?

So, if you are in the area, go support The West Kentucky Rockin' Rollers
Not any where near? Go find whatever team is in your area, and get inspired to try something new too!

Fabric Tea Time.

While gallivanting around town with a friend of mine, I was introduced to a sweet new store. It's called....

Rock Paper Scissors

It's an adorable little store. While sitting on a small couch by the window over looking the street, you can sip your loose leaf tea from beautiful mismatched pots, and tea cups. Browse a small selection of fat quarters, old buttons sewn onto old playing cards, craft books, and jewelry made by artists here in the city. I picked up some really cute fabric, and had yummy tea & cake while there, and I will be back soon. :)

Yay, Baby!

Everyone knows how I feel about baby showers, I love them and think everyone should have one for every baby, even more so when the mommy's family is far away.Whether it's a 1st baby and the parents need everything, or a 4th baby and the mommy just needs a good kid-free pamper mommy day! Every mommy and baby should be celebrated in some way.
I was lucky enough to be able to help out with a baby shower this past month, and it was so much fun! Having more than one person involved makes it so much easier, and enables you to do things you couldn't do on your own.
For my part in the baby shower, I contributed the favors, the cupcakes, the craft & 2 games. I had a lot of fun coming up with what to do!

For my games I tried not to do the standard "baby shower" games, so I did a "how many" game. How many clothes pins are in this jar.

I was amazed that I got close to 200 clothes pins in there! The little label on there was left over from the water bottle labels that the hostess bought off of Esty. Cute huh!?

Other games were, a baby Scattegories, and What's in Mommy's Purse. I picked the letters to be used in Scattegories, G and T, the first letters of the parents names. They are being surprised by the sex, so we didn't use the baby's name. For "What's In Mommy's Purse" I listed things like grocery reciepts, wipes, binkys, chapstick, and snacks. It was pretty funny to see what everyone carries in their purses. I also put some fun facts on the side of the paper such as, the biggest baby ever born was 24lbs, the weirdest pregnancy cravings are things like ashes, laundry soap, and rubber, and the first known contraceptive was crocodile dung, used by Egyptians in 2000 B.C.

For the craft, it was clear that the 3 of us involved wanted to do something a little different. We settled on a bunting. I cut out tons of triangles and supplied buttons, ribbons, and markers for the guests to put together a flag for the baby bunting. It's not all done yet (sickness slowing me down), and I'll post when it is, but the flags came out really cute!

This was the crafting station.

Since we don't know the sex, everyone just did whichever they wanted.
Boy

Or Girl.

The decorating was done by the hostess and I have to say it was so adorable, and it was super cheap! Just some twine, clothes pins and baby things from her own stash, and she had a great bunting of her own!! How cute is this!?!? Little hats, bibs, clothes, and cozy toys. Love it! She also made a really sweet diaper cake that doubled as decoration and awesome gift!

Finally came the favors. I love favors, but struggle with things that are cheap, and a waste of money. Seems to be the norm though, when it comes to favors, cheap little things that are just thrown away. With the shower being around 10 ladies, it was a great size for me to go in a different direction, without being overly expensive.
I bought Starbucks gift cards for everyone. I figured, everyone could use a little pick me up.
I made some felt envelopes for them, and called it good.

The shower was great fun, and I hope the mommy felt loved and a little more prepared for her new bundle of joy!
